A lady lost her life, and a gentleman is believed to have perished after being washed off some rocks close to a seaside path on Victoria’s southern coastline.
Emergency services were called to a beach off Punch Bowl Road near San Remo, 125km southeast of Melbourne , at 8:30 AM on Friday.
Officers received reports three people were washed into the water.
A second lady managed to return to the shoreline without incident as air searches commenced for both the initial woman and the 41-year-old gentleman.
The second woman was later discovered not responding in the water.
Emergency personnel tried to resuscitate the woman, but she passed away at the location.
Efforts persist in locating the individual who was last spotted near the coastal rocks.
The Punchbowl Rocks Beach is located close to the well-known George Bass coastal hike and is encircled by steep cliffs, coral formations, and rocky outcrops.
