Four individuals perished, one sustained severe injuries, and another remains unaccounted for following a gondola car accident on Thursday close to Naples, according to statements from local rescue teams and fire brigades.
"The cabin atop the structure has had an accident," stated Umberto De Gregorio, who serves as the chairperson for EAV, the public transportation entity operating the cable car services.
Multiple Italian news outlets reported that one of the cables holding up the cabin had broken.
Vincenzo De Luca, who leads the Campania region near Naples, stated to RAI public television that rescue efforts were being impeded due to fog and strong winds.
